Southern Watch Jewellery and Electronic Suppliers is a family run business, situated in the heart of the central business district of Cape Town, near the well known landmarks of Greenmarket Square and Long Street.

The business was started in 1989 by Eileen Redelinghuys, together with the help of her mother Mrs Myburgh, who stood by her side for more than 20 years, daughter Karien Liebenberg, son Riaan Redelinghuys, husband Hennie Redelinghuys and loyal staff, have made Southern Watch Jewellery and Electronic Suppliers the success story that it is today.

Southern Watch Jewellery and Electronic Suppliers has provided the watch making industry, manufacturing jewellers industry, clock making industry, watch shops, jeweller shops, general dealers and the broad public with spares, tools, accessories, consumables, service and professional advice for more than 20 years and continues today with the same enthusiasm and dedication since the day the business’ doors opened.

Physical appearances of our business have however changed over the years, some good and others, sadly, not so good. The “good” includes moving to our current premises, the building dating back to the early 1900’s which matches our antique furniture, all adding to our old world watchmakers style shop. The “not so good” being the sad passing of Mrs Myburgh “ouma” who had an unforgettable presence in the shop. Everybody that entered through the doors of Southern Watch, knew her as the friendliest person in the city. Then there was the sad and tragic passing of Carol Cristiaans who had worked for us for many years.

Currently our work force consists of 9 people being staff and family members forming a formidable team that serves the needs of walk in customers and the wholesale trade. Since the start, Mrs Redelinghuys strived to provide Southern Watch customers with the friendliest and best service at affordable prices in Cape Town. These ideals manifest themselves through our wonderful staff and together we create a friendly and welcoming shopping environment for people from all walks of life. Our main objective in business is to provide the customer with professional service coupled with old world friendliness and price affordability .Testimony to these objectives was being nominated as the friendliest shop in Cape Town by Cape Talk Radio in 2011.

Our main achievement is our support base. We have loyal customers all over South Africa and the rest of world which includes the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, St Helena Island, Namibia & Malawi to name a few. All our customers are cherished and very special to us. Other achievements are as mentioned being nominated as being one of the friendliest shops in Cape Town by Cape Talk Radio in 2010 and going on to be a finalist. Then we were featured in the local weekly newspaper the Capetowner, a full page article on the 5^th of April 2012 . We were also featured in Die Burger as part of the Cape Town supporters of the FIFA Soccer World Cup.

We were nominated by the positive letter send in to CapeTalk by one of our loyal customers by the name of Mark. From there we were contacted and a live radio interview with John Maytham was scheduled. Southern Watch Jewellery and Electronic Supplies were selected as one of the finalists in the CapeTalk Radio Small Business Awards sponsored by Softline Pastel.
